The official journey towards the establishment of the Master’s Program (S2) in English Language Education traces its roots back to the formal proposal submitted by the Rector of UM Kendari on November 10, 2023, through letter Number 211/II.3.AU/A/2023. This proposal was put forward as a concrete response to the challenges of enhancing the academic quality of teachers, lecturers, and language practitioners across Eastern Indonesia.

Fortunately, this commitment yielded historic results at the beginning of the following year. On January 9, 2024, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia officially issued the Ministerial Decree Number 20/E/O/2024 regarding the Approval for the Opening of Study Programs at Universitas Muhammadiyah Kendari, organized by the Muhammadiyah Association.

Through this decree, signed on behalf of the Minister by the Acting Director General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology, Nizam, the Master’s Program in English Language Education at UM Kendari was declared officially established and recognized as meeting the minimum accreditation requirements to immediately commence its educational activities.
